Deferment of Summer 2026 Taxes
Deferment of Summer 2026 taxes is available on the Principle Residence of those residents who qualify and file a deferment application (Michigan Department of Treasury form 471) by September 14, 2026 with your local municipal Treasurer.
To qualify, a household income cannot exceed $40,000 and must qualify for one of the following classifications.
- 62 years of age or older or a surviving spouse
- Paraplegic
- Hemiplegic
- Quadriplegic
- Eligible Serviceperson
- Eligible Veteran or widow or widower of
- Blind
- Totally & Permanently Disabled
Those that farm agricultural real property may also qualify.

SUMMER TAXES are due on September 14, 2026 without interest.
WINTER TAXES are due on February 16, 2027 without penalty.
Please refer to your tax bill for the dates as these dates can change.

SUMMER TAX POSTMARKS
- If you did NOT mail your Summer tax payments by SEPTEMBER 14, 2026 please contact the Treasurer at 231-492-9855 for an updated tax amount.
- You can always pay in person on that final due date. Postmarks will be used for the September 14th due date.
WINTER TAX POSTMARKS
- Postmarks will NO LONGER BE HONORED for Winter Taxe

- If you need a receipt you must send a self- stamped envelope with your payment.
PENALTIES
- If payment is NOT in the Treasurer's hand by March 1, 2027, the bill will incur penalties and it will be turned over to the Grand Traverse County Treasurer as "delinquent" on March 2, 2027.
- Taxes can only be paid at the County after March 2, 2027.
- You will need to contact the Grand Traverse County Treasurer at 231-922-4735 for updated amounts due.
- Checks MUST be made out to GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY TREASURER after March 2, 2027 as they can no longer accept checks made out to Union Township.
