Deferment of Summer 2024 Taxes
Deferment of Summer 2024 taxes is available on the Principle Residence of those residents who qualify and file a deferment application (Michigan Department of Treasury form 471) by September 15, 2024 with your local municipal Treasurer.
To qualify, a household income cannot exceed $40,000 and must qualify for one of the following classifications.
- 62 years of age or older or a surviving spouse
- Paraplegic
- Hemiplegic
- Quadriplegic
- Eligible Serviceperson
- Eligible Veteran or widow or widower of
- Blind
- Totally & Permanently Disabled
Those that farm agricultural real property may also qualify.

SUMMER TAXES are due on September 16, 2024 without interest.
WINTER TAXES are due on February 14, 2025 without penalty.
Please refer to your tax bill for the dates as these dates can change.

SUMMER TAX POSTMARKS
- If you did NOT mail your Summer tax payments by SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 please contact the Treasurer at 231-492-9855 for an updated tax amount.
- You can always pay in person on that final due date. Postmarks will be used for the September 16th due date.
WINTER TAX POSTMARKS
- Winter taxes MUST be IN THE TREASURER'S HAND by Feb

- You can always pay in person on that final due date. Postmarks will be used for the September 16th due date.
WINTER TAX POSTMARKS
- Winter taxes MUST be IN THE TREASURER'S HAND by February 28, 2025.
- On March 1, 2025 all delinquent taxes will be turned over to Grand Traverse County Treasurer.
- Postmarks will NO LONGER BE HONORED for Winter Taxes.
- If you need a receipt you must send a self- stamped envelope with your payment.
PENALTIES
- If payment is NOT in the Treasurer's hand by February 28th, the bill will incur penalties and it will be turned over to the Grand Traverse County Treasurer as "delinquent" on March 1, 2025.
- Taxes can only be paid at the County after March 1, 2025.
- You will need to contact the Grand Traverse County Treasurer at 231-922-4735 for updated amounts due.
- Checks MUST be made out to GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY TREASURER after March 1, 2025 as they can no longer accept checks made out to Union Township.

The Treasurer will be available on September 16, 2024, December 26, 2024, February 14, 2025 and February 28, 2025 to accept your payment in person at the Township Hall on Fife Lake Rd.
All other days, please call 231-492-9855 in advance to schedule a drop-off.
